Figure 4.5.1.A The Files -> Downloads Page. |
The downloads portion of this section allows you to download any logs, screenshots, demos etc that may be generated by your server.
Whether or not there is something for you to download is very much dependant on the game. For instance, punkbuster logs and screenshots will only be available to games that support punkbuster, and demos will only be available for games such as UT2004. The presence of these files also depends on if you have turned on that particular feature, i.e. demos do not get created by default, they must be requested.
If you believe your server should be generating a log or similar, but it is not available in the lists on this page, please let us know and we will investigate.
It is important to note that as well as the downloads interface this page describes, we have also created a special FTP server you can connect to, to download any of the files that you can within ClanForge. The primary reason for this is for those clans who have a stats generation script of some kind running on their clanserver website which requires FTP access to read the server logs. More details on this FTP access can be found here.

- Game
For most customers this will only ever list the one game. For Dedicated Server customers, or customers who have bought additional games, each of the games installed on your server/machine will be listed here. Choose the game you wish to get downloads from.
- Server
Our Dedicated Server customers may be running more than one instance of the same game on their machine. Use this drop down menu to select the exact server you wish to download logs etc from.
For most of our customers, again this will only ever have the one entry.
- Type
Use this drop down list to select the type of download you are looking for. Typically this will include items such as Bans, Logs, Punkbuster Logs and Punkbuster Screenshots.
- Files
After selecting the Game, Server and Type, any files available will be listed in this box. If nothing is listed then there is nothing of that type available on this server.
If there are items listed, you can highlight them with your mouse to download them to your home computer, to delete them, or to preview them in the Preview Pane on the right of the screen.
- Preview Pane
By default, the ability to preview anything you select in the Files Pane is turned on (see point 11). If you highlight a file name in the Files Pane, the Preview Pane will refresh and attempt to show the contents of that highlighted file. If the file is a screenshot, it will display the picture. If it is a log or other form of text file, it will display the contents of the file but depending on the size, may truncate it to only display the first 150K or so.
- Preview Navigation Tools
Using these three buttons, you can scroll through the files available in the Files -> Pane. Clicking on either Previous or Next will cause the Preview Pane to display either the previous or next file in the list.
Clicking on Hide Files will cause the whole left hand side of the screen to disappear, giving the Preview Pane more room. This is especially handy when viewing screenshots that are zoomed in. To make the files section appear again, simply click on Display Files. The window will then return to the normal format.
- Select All Button
By clicking this button, you will automatically highlight all the files currently displayed in the Files Pane. This is primarily used when you want to download all the files onto your home machine.
- Download Button
This button will remain greyed out until you select at least one file from the Files Pane. Once the button becomes active, clicking on it will initiate a download off all the files you have selected. A file save dialog box will appear on your screen and you will be asked to Open, Save or Cancel the download. Choose to save it to your hard disk.
All downloads are in Zip format. You will need a tool such as winzip in order to open the file once it has been saved to your hard drive. Also bear in mind that if you are downloading a lot of files (especially large files), it may take some time for the zip file to prepare before it becomes available to download. Please be patient if you are trying to download large files.
- Delete Button
This button will remain greyed out until you select at least one file from the Files Pane. After you have selected one or more files, if you then click this button you will be asked if you are certain you wish to delete the selected files. Clicking Yes will then permanently delete all the files you have selected from your server. These files are not recoverable once deleted.
- Delete After Download
By ticking this box, you indicate that once you have downloaded a file you would like it to be deleted from the server. No files are deleted yet, you need to initiate a download as described in point 8. Once the download is started (the save dialog appears), the files you have selected are deleted from your server.
It is important to note that if you cancel the save dialog box or otherwise fail to download the file, you will not be able to download the file again as it will have been deleted already.
- Preview Files
This is selected by default. If you un-tick this box, previews of files will no longer appear in the Preview Pane when you highlight them in the Files Pane.
- Increase/Decrease Magnification
These buttons remain greyed out until you preview an image. If you have an image in the Preview Pane, these buttons will allow you to zoom in and zoom out, effectively increasing or decreasing the image size.
- Increase/Decrease Brightness
These buttons remain greyed out until you preview an image. If you have an image in the Preview Pane, these buttons will allow you to increase or decrease the brightness of the picture. Many screenshots are quite dark, so you should find this feature useful if you intend to preview screenshots before downloading them.
Note: This feature will only work in Internet Explorer. It is not supported by other web browsers.
- Delete Current File
This button is virtually exactly the same as the Delete Button (point 9). After you have selected one or more files, if you then click this button you will be asked if you are certain you wish to delete the selected files. Clicking Yes will then permanently delete all the files you have selected from your server. These files are not recoverable once deleted.
- Previous/Next File
These buttons provide the same functionality as the Previous and Next buttons in the Preview Navigation Tools (point 6). Using these buttons you can scroll through the files available in the Files -> Pane. Clicking on either button will cause the Preview Pane to display either the previous or next file in the list.
- Refresh Button
On busy servers you may find things like punkbuster logs and screenshots are being generated quite frequently. Using this button, you can refresh the file list to show any new files that have been generated.
