Figure 4.2.3.A Statistics Expanded |
Although not shown in the figure above, when you expand this page you are shown 5 graphs representing the CPU usage of this server over the last hour, day, week, month and year.
For the majority of our customers, these graphs are for informational purposes only. They will however be of particular interest to our Dedicated Server customers so that they can see how much CPU power each of their servers is consuming and at what times of the day.
Just a couple of things to note:
- The GREEN line represents the number of players you had on the server. For example, if the green line reaches 30 on the left hand scale, then there were 30 players on that server at that point in time.
- The BLUE line represents how much CPU power the server was using. This time the measurement is a percentage of the total CPU power available on one CPU. If the blue line reaches 50 on the left hand scale, then it means that 50% of one CPU (or core) is being utilised at that point. An important thing to remember however is that most of our machines have more than one CPU (or core), with some having up to 4 cores (2 x Dual Core CPUs). This distinction should be remembered by our Dedicated Server customers with a multiple CPU/core machine.
- The ORANGE line represents the amount of Memory being used by this server instance. In this case, the scale on the left is expressed as 1/10th of the amount used in Megabytes. For example, if the orange line reaches 30 on the left hand scale then it means that 300MB of RAM are being used by that server at that time. This newer feature of the graphs can come in handy for tracking server memory usage, especially as there have been a few games known to have memory leaks.
- On some of the graphs you may notice a RED horizontal line at the 80% mark (or elsewhere). This is a threshold we have set. It is designed to stop any single server from using too much CPU. This might happen from time to time if the server goes rogue, or a new mod/addon might add significant CPU overhead than normal. Our server monitoring software will watch out for any process that goes above this limit for more than a set period of time, and if it does, will forcibly stop and restart the server. This should not be confused with a server crash, although to the players on the server it will seem like it is.
The monitoring software will not restart servers that only peak past this threshold for a brief time, for instance when loading a new map.
Only Dedicated Server customers may request we alter this threshold.
